An Attended Direct Cremation is when the coffin is taken to the crematorium for either 9am or 9.30am, and will be taken into the chapel where you can spend some quiet time alone or with friends/family to say your private goodbyes. A Direct Cremation is quite simply a cremation without a service or any mourners present at the crematorium.

Attended Direct Cremation
Want a Celebration of Life Ceremony with us and go to the Crematorium?
Most families are happy for the coffin to be taken directly to the crematorium by our staff following the Celebration of Life Ceremony in our beautiful Oak Framed Barn, however, some like to go to the crematorium with the coffin. If you feel you would like to do this please read on for more information as to how we work at Gentle Endings Cremations in Ashford.

Everything that's included in a Celebration of Life Funeral and Cremation:

Transfer of coffin into our professional mortuary after the Celebration of Life funeral with us.

Care of person who has died overnight in our professional mortuary.

The following morning we will transfer the coffin in our black hearse to Medway crematorium for either 9am or 9.30am.

Your personal Gentle Endings Guide/Funeral Director on day.

4 bearers.

1 hour in chapel to either listen to music or just spend time with friends & family. Some people just need 10 mins to say goodbye, if you would like you Gentle Endings Guide/Funeral Director can say a blessing.

Organising music if wanted.
Non-Attended Direct Cremation
Perfect if you don't want a ceremony with the coffin present
Some people don't want to have a ceremony with the coffin present, they would rather
the coffin goes off to be cremated and then perhaps have a memorial or
Celebration of Life with the ashes instead.

HOW
We will come and bring your loved one into our care from wherever they have died and
care for them in our professional mortuary.
We will organise all the legal paperwork for the direct, attended or unattended cremation and book the date and time that this will take place. If you would like to know this we will tell you so you can perhaps light a candle at home or with friends & family at the time of the cremation.
We will take the coffin to the crematorium in our private ambulance on the day of the cremation, whether attended, unattended and/or direct.
We will then collect the ashes on your behalf and you can come and collect them from
us in Egerton at an agreed time.
We can take a fingerprint for memorial jewellery and a lock of hair should you wish too.
Your Gentle Endings Cremations Guide & Funeral Director will be with you
throughout supporting you in any way you need.

OTHER POSSIBLE COSTS
Out of hours collection - £450
If you require our team in Ashford, Kent to come and collect the person who has died between the hours of 5pm and 9am Mon- Fri and all day Sat & Sun. Please call us - it's not always necessary for someone to be moved at night.
Out of area collections - from £100
If the person who has died is further than 30 miles from our base in Ashford, Kent, there will be an added cost. Please contact us to confirm cost.
Extended stay - £30 per day
If the person who has died is in our care for longer that three weeks there will be a daily charge.
Ashes storage - £25 per week
We will happily look after the ashes free of charge for up to 1 month after cremation. Following this there will be
a charge of £25 per week payable in advance.
Please note:

If when, we are holding the ashes for you, payment is not received and despite all reasonable efforts to contact you to come and collect have not been successful then we will dispose of the ashes respectfully.

The costs are kept low for this service by keeping things simple and as time effective as possible, as such please be aware that washing and dressing of your loved one and visiting them does incur an extra charge. Please contact us for further information. We encourage families, who choose a direct cremation, to spend as much time with their loved one before we come to collect them, you can also wash and dress them yourself or ask a carer/nurse to help.
